Kimchi Panettone

According to a press release, LG Electronics of Korea – makers of a vast array of consumer electronics and Prada – the luxury goods label, announced a partnership to produce a mobile phone.  The success of the LG “Chocolate” may have prompted the stylish Italian driven Dutch owned company to delve into the mobile phone market.  [Link]

Like the LG Chocolate, this style phone will have to be produced in a few flavors:

CDMA for NAFTA other countries like South Korea (LG’s Homeland), India, Taiwan, and New Zealand.  (i.e vx8500 or the LG Chocolate for Verizon Wireless)

GSM for the rest of the world, and like may other LG phones in the past.  One GSM handset for Euro Asia/Pac tri-band and another for NAFTA tri-band.

UMTS/WCDMA for the one market that would go ape-shit over a Prada phone is the Japanese market.  For those luxury-mongers in Japan a limited edition Japan only Prada-keitai would garner top yen for fashionistas.  LGE would stand to gain marketshare since the major foreign cell phone makers in Japan right now are Samsung (S Korea) and Nokia (Finland).

I for one am not impressed by this move.  The fact that Prada went with a Korean company instead of the obvious European choices confuses me, but I am tickled just thinking about what they should call the new phone.

Korea – land of kimchi, salt and chili cured vegetables and seafood
Prada – Milan based company.  Milan known for the sweet Christmas cake panettone.

The LG Kimchi Panettone and the LG Chocolate, what flavor are you?
