Movers, Shakers?

At brunch and I notice that this table slowly fills up. A roar of hugs and kisses would welcome the next person to the table.

First, I assumed that this group of folks were just old college friends meeting up downtown, until I heard talk about a Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore comedy script. It became evident that these folks are in the new business of bringing Hollywood to Michigan. A huge tax incentive and the diverse landscapes here make it a good candidate for film and television.

I looked on with admiration and hope that these folks will breathe life into our ailing cities.

As the drinks were served and the folks were clearly eschewed the notion of eating, I overheard “Yeah, I find myself getting things done easier here than in L.A.” My assessment of these folks turned from economic heros to layabouts who just want to cash in on the film industry. I guess I shouldn’t have taken a Pollyanna approach to anyone in the ‘biz’ but I really thought that these folks were bohemian with a mission to get Detroit up and running.

I showed this photo to a dear photography friend and after picking out the good technical aspects of the photo, we got to chatting about the subject matter and how we could easily read this photo as a table of douchebags.

1) Two totally disparate conversations
2) The conversation on the left, all three of them are talking over each other.
3) The conversation on the right, man with hand on chin.
4) *This was brilliantly noted by my friend* Mr. Hand-on-chin is actually Mr. Ponytailed-hand-on-chin.
5) Without going into detail about the restaurant, we are in a place to see and be seen in downtown Detroit. This table was a good vantage point for them to watch anyone in the dining room.
